I’ll keep kneeling for those who deserve it — Toyin Abraham fires back at critics

Popular Nigerian actress, Toyin Abraham, has responded to criticism over her habit of kneeling to greet people at social gatherings, insisting she has no intention of stopping.

The actress made this known on Saturday via her X handle while replying to a fan, Lady Victoria, who had advised her to abandon what she described as “unnecessary kneeling,” arguing that it could attract disrespect and amount to eye service.

Firing back, Abraham maintained that her actions are rooted in respect and personal values, stressing that she would continue the gesture for individuals she believes deserve it.

“I won’t stop kneeling to people who value and deserve it, my darling. I will continue to go on both knees to greet people who value and deserve it no matter the status,” she wrote.

The exchange followed reactions to a video from the 70th birthday celebration of former Ogun State Governor, Gbenga Daniel, where Abraham was seen kneeling to greet prominent figures, including socialite Shade Okoya and her husband, Rasaq Okoya, among other dignitaries.

Reacting to the clip, Lady Victoria, who identified herself as a fan, urged the actress to reconsider the gesture, noting that some of the individuals she knelt for were not significantly older than her. She added that the practice could make Abraham appear to belittle herself.

However, Abraham’s response has since sparked mixed reactions online, with some supporting her stance as a reflection of cultural respect, while others echoed concerns about its perception in public spaces.
