South African singer Tyla has won the Best African Music Performance at the 68th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
She took home the award for her hit “Push 2 Start,” beating Nigerian stars Burna Boy (“Love”), Davido featuring Omah Lay (“With You”), and Ayra Starr featuring Wizkid (“Gimme Dat”). Other nominees included Eddy Kenzo & Mehran Matin (“Hope & Love”).
This is Tyla’s second win in the category. She first won in 2024 for “Water,” becoming the inaugural recipient. Her repeat victory highlights her rising influence in African and global music.
“Push 2 Start” mixes amapiano, pop, and R&B. Its themes of love and confidence have made it popular worldwide, especially through social media and streaming platforms.
Nigerian artists had a strong presence but did not win any awards. Burna Boy also lost in the Best Global Music Album category to Brazilian legends Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia for Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo.

US-born artist Shaboozey, whose parents are Nigerian, also won Best Country Solo Performance, showing the reach of African diaspora artists.
