Nollywood actress, Tonto Dike

How I masturbated, smoked cigarettes for 27 years — Tonto Dike

Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has opened up about her long battle with masturbation, smoking and other destructive habits, revealing how her faith helped her break free after decades of struggle.

Dikeh shared her testimony during a recent Sunday service at the Streams of Joy International Church in Abuja, describing the experience as an act of thanksgiving to God.

The actress disclosed that she battled what she described as “demonic anger” for many years, an intense rage she said once drove her but ultimately damaged her life and relationships.

According to her, she only began to experience genuine peace recently, at the age of 40.

She also recounted her 27-year addiction to smoking, which began when she was just 13 years old, using the moment to caution parents against exposing their children to unhealthy habits.

“Standing before you here is someone who was like a chimney, constant smoke. I started smoking when I was 13,” she said.

“As parents, if you smoke or engage in things that are not right, keep them away from your children. Don’t take them near your children because the devil can use that little habit to destroy their lives. I started smoking because my father smoked.”

Dikeh further admitted to struggling with alcohol abuse, revealing that she once drank excessively on a daily basis, often until she passed out.

“I was an alcoholic. I would drink and pass out. I didn’t care who was watching,” she said. “I’m not talking about a few cups of alcohol. I’m talking about two big bottles a day. But today, it is broken.”

The actress also spoke about a lifelong struggle with sexual immorality, including masturbation and recurring sexual experiences in her dreams, which she said dated back to her childhood.

She disclosed that her deliverance came after attending a prayer conference in Ghana.

“God healed me from masturbation. For as long as I can remember, I had sexual experiences in my dreams,” she said.

“After the prayer conference in Ghana, I realised that the force that held me captive all those years, assaulting my body and taking advantage of the grace upon my life, ran away.”

Dikeh said her testimony was meant to encourage others battling similar issues, stressing that freedom was possible through faith.
