US seizes Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman after it ignored naval warnings, as Iran condemns the move and warns of retaliation amid rising tensions.

US intercepts, seizes Iranian-flagged cargo ship in Gulf of Oman

The United States has intercepted and seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman.

US President Donald Trump said the vessel, named Touska, was stopped while trying to pass through an American naval blockade.

“Today, an Iranian-flagged cargo ship named TOUSKA… tried to get past our Naval Blockade, and it did not go well for them,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He said the ship ignored warnings from US forces.

“The US Navy… gave them fair warning to stop. The Iranian crew refused to listen, so our Navy ship stopped them right in their tracks by blowing a hole in the engine room,” he said.

Trump added that US forces now control the vessel.

“Right now, US Marines have custody of the vessel… We have full custody of the ship, and are seeing what’s on board.”

Iran condemned the action and called it a breach of the ceasefire.

A spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya military headquarters said US forces “opened fire on one of Iran’s commercial vessels… disabled its navigation system, and boarded it.”

“Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will soon respond to and retaliate for this act,” the statement said.

The incident comes as tensions remain high over the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route.

Iran has said it will not join further talks while the US naval blockade continues.
