Arsenal fail to win at the Etihad, leave EPL title in Man City hands

Arsenal failed to win at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, losing 2–1 to Manchester City and handing control of the Premier League title race to their rivals.

City are now three points behind with a game in hand. A win over Burnley on Wednesday could send Pep Guardiola’s side to the top.

City took the lead in the 16th minute through Rayan Cherki, who beat his markers and finished well.

Arsenal responded almost immediately. A mistake from Gianluigi Donnarumma allowed Kai Havertz to equalise.

The second half was tight. Erling Haaland hit the post, while Arsenal came close through Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhães.

Haaland later scored the winner, reacting quickly to a loose ball in the box.

Arsenal pushed for a late goal, but Donnarumma made a key save to deny Havertz.

“It’s on. It is on,” one analysis said after the match, as City closed the gap in the title race.

Another added: “Arsenal didn’t do a great deal wrong… This was a very even game.”

City’s momentum, however, proved decisive. “This result… will do wonders for them going forward,” an analysis noted, calling it “another hammer blow” to Arsenal’s title hopes.
