Trump extends Iran ceasefire

Trump extends Iran ceasefire, delays planned US attack

United States President Donald Trump has announced an extension of the ceasefire with Iran, effectively delaying a previously planned US military attack as diplomatic efforts continue to unfold.

Trump said on Tuesday that the decision was taken following a request from Pakistani mediators, as the initial truce was set to expire on Wednesday.

In a post on social media, the US President said he had directed the military to maintain readiness but to hold off on any strike, allowing more time for Tehran to present a unified proposal to end the ongoing conflict.

He added that the extension would remain in place until Iran submits its proposal and discussions are concluded “one way or the other,” suggesting there is no fixed deadline for now.

The move comes amid heightened tensions, with earlier signals from Trump indicating opposition to extending the ceasefire. However, diplomatic intervention by Pakistan is said to have influenced the latest decision.

Iran has yet to formally respond to the announcement, though officials have previously criticised US military pressure and conditions attached to negotiations.

The ceasefire extension comes as both sides remain at odds over key issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme, regional influence, and control of strategic maritime routes.

Despite the pause in planned military action, US forces are reported to remain on standby, with continued pressure on Tehran to return to talks.
