The Nigerian Army has announced a major breakthrough in its ongoing counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations, confirming the arrest of 20 suspected terrorists and the rescue of 17 kidnapped victims within just 48 hours.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, said the coordinated operations were carried out across multiple regions, including the North-East, North-West, and North-Central, targeting terrorist enclaves and criminal hideouts.
According to the statement, troops successfully neutralized several terror cells, recovered sophisticated weapons, and destroyed makeshift camps used by insurgents for planning attacks and holding captives.
“Our troops have sustained aggressive operations across all theatres, dismantling terror networks and intercepting criminal logistics routes. Within the past 48 hours, we arrested 20 high-profile suspects and rescued 17 civilians who had been held hostage,” Nwachukwu said.
He emphasized that the Nigerian Army remains committed to restoring peace and stability nationwide, adding that the operations are part of a broader strategy to eliminate threats to national security.

“The Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, will continue to hunt down remnants of these criminal elements until every community in Nigeria is safe,” he added.
The rescued victims, the statement noted, are currently receiving medical care and debriefing before being reunited with their families.
The Army also urged Nigerians to continue providing credible intelligence to aid ongoing security efforts, reaffirming its commitment to defending the nation’s sovereignty and protecting lives and property.
