Senator Ned Nwoko has addressed the arrest of Ms Izuegbu Anthonet, popularly known as Ann, responding to circulating claims on social media.
In a statement from his media team, the senator said Ann was arrested over allegations of criminal defamation, following repeated accusations made against him and his family.
Ann had publicly claimed that Senator Nwoko physically assaulted his wife, Laila Nwoko, and caused her to suffer a miscarriage. The senator denied these claims, saying they were entirely fabricated.
Nwoko’s team also linked Ann to an ongoing investigation involving the procurement of an illegal abortion for actress Regina Daniels during her marriage to the senator. According to the statement, the matter is under review by security agencies.

The statement added that a formal witness report submitted to Maitama Police Station in October 2025 mentioned alleged activities involving illegal substances, which are being investigated by the relevant authorities.
Ann’s arrest reportedly followed a social media post in which she allegedly issued threats and repeated defamatory statements against the senator and his wife. Nwoko’s team said the arrest was based on alleged violations of the law and not a personal dispute.
Describing the situation as a law enforcement matter, the senator said he and his family would “allow due process to take its course” and would not engage in “trial by social media.” He also urged the public to rely on verified information rather than rumours as investigations continue.
