A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has inaugurated a new Board of Trustees (BoT), further deepening the crisis within the opposition party.
Speaking during the inauguration on Friday, the factional Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, accused the Adolphus Wabara-led BoT of losing its moral authority and failing to uphold the principles on which the PDP was founded.
Mohammed described the inauguration as a “turning point” in the life of the party, saying the move was not just to create another board but to “restore the moral compass” that once guided the PDP.
“We have come together, not merely to inaugurate a new Board of Trustees, but to renew our faith in the ideals that gave birth to this great political family – justice, fairness, inclusivity, and respect for the rule of law,” he said.
He noted that the PDP was built as a national movement founded on unity, service, and democratic values, but lamented that recent events had eroded those ideals.
“The previous Board of Trustees, led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, sadly lost the moral balance expected of that noble institution,” Mohammed stated.

“His suspension by the Abia State chapter of our party over anti-party activities was a difficult but necessary step. The credibility of that leadership became heavily questioned, and its continued role in national advisory matters became untenable.”
Mohammed further accused the suspended National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, of prioritizing personal loyalty over the constitution and weakening the moral foundation of the party.
He said the new BoT would work to restore internal democracy, uphold the party’s founding principles, and rebuild public confidence in the PDP as a credible opposition force.
