The atmosphere was of
pandemonium yesterday at the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba, Ondo State as
students of the institution clashed with indigenes of the community.
According to an eye
witness, the clash started as a protest on Saturday morning after an accident
involving commercial motorcycle riders left a student in a next to death state
on Friday evening.

The students, in
solidarity took to the streets to express their displeasure over what they
believe could have been avoided. The students account alleged that the
instruction’s medical centre was not prompt in attending to the accident
victim. It was also alleged that the Health Centre’s Ambulance was not
available on time to covey the victim to a better medical centre.
The protest however
became far from being peaceful, as many facilities like the institution’s
restaurant, entrance gate, security stands and other facilities were vandalised.
Like a wild lion, the
aggrieved students in hundreds aggressively attacked indigenes of the
community, thus prompting a violent response from the latter.
Market women and
travellers shared from the pain of the trouble as they suffered attacks from
the warring sides. Stores were broke into, paving way for looting and vehicular
movement halted. The Akungba community was left grounded in the thick of the
violence.
The trouble lasted for
hours but thanks to a continuous unforeseen rain, which broke the tie, only for
the sides to resume bout this morning.
Men of the Nigerian
Police Force have been spotted on ground to install peace and seem to have achieved
a degree of some sort.
The sorry state puts a
big doubt on the continuation of the ongoing second semester examination and
the close of the semester initially meant for the end of April.

The institution’s
management have reportedly announced the school closed till further notice and
occupants at the female hostel within campus have been driven out.
