Over 100 killed, 873 injured as Israel bombs funeral site, others in Lebanon

More than 100 people have died and hundreds more were injured after Israeli airstrikes hit several locations across Lebanon, just hours after a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran.

Lebanese health authorities said the strikes left scores dead and hundreds wounded in Beirut, southern Lebanon, and the eastern Bekaa Valley. The health ministry reported 112 deaths and 837 injuries nationwide.

Reports suggest that a funeral in eastern Lebanon may have been caught in one of the strikes. Local sources say there were casualties at the site, though details are not yet fully verified.

“They bombed a funeral in Lebanon at a cemetery and everyone is now dead. a fucking funeral at a cemetery,” a social media user said.

Residents in Beirut reported explosions in commercial and residential areas without warning, causing panic and sending smoke over the city.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said it had carried out its largest coordinated assault on Lebanese territory since the start of “Operation Roaring Lion.”

“In 10 minutes, the IDF completed the largest coordinated strike across Lebanon since the start of Operation Roaring Lion,” the IDF said on its official X account.

The Israeli military said it targeted more than 100 sites linked to Hezbollah, including “headquarters, military arrays, & command-and-control centers in Beirut, Beqaa and southern Lebanon.”

The IDF added that the strikes hit “intelligence command centers and central headquarters used planning terror attacks,” as well as “infrastructure of firepower and naval arrays, responsible for launching missiles,” and assets of Hezbollah’s elite units, the Radwan Force and the Aerial unit.

The attacks raise fears of a wider conflict as tensions increase between Israeli forces and Hezbollah fighters. Israel had previously said it would continue striking Lebanon despite the two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States.

Several countries have called on Israel to stop the attacks, but Israel says it must defeat Hezbollah, which it views as a threat with support from Iran.

Since fighting intensified in early March, 1,500 people have died and over 4,600 have been injured, including children, women, and healthcare workers. More than 1.2 million people have been displaced, many leaving southern border areas and Beirut’s southern suburbs.

Lebanese officials condemned Wednesday’s strikes. Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said the attacks hit densely populated areas and caused civilian casualties, while the Presidency called them “barbaric,” saying they violated humanitarian norms and escalated aggression.
