Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced plans to return missionary schools in the state to their original church owners as part of efforts to strengthen partnerships in the education sector.
Abiodun made this known on Friday while receiving the Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, Archbishop Michael Francis Crotty, during a courtesy visit at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The governor emphasised the need for collaboration between government and faith-based institutions, noting that sustainable development cannot be achieved without joint efforts.
“We will return all missionary schools to their owners. It is not our policy to do it alone. We need to join hands with private individuals, and we encourage further partnership with the Church to expand development,” he said.

He acknowledged the longstanding contributions of religious organisations, particularly in education and healthcare, adding that their involvement has helped promote peace and socio-economic growth in the state.
Abiodun described Ogun as a model of religious harmony and a growing destination for religious tourism, stressing that faith-based organisations play a vital role in maintaining stability.
He also highlighted the influence of the Catholic Church, noting its significant presence globally and within Nigeria, including in Ogun State.
Earlier, Archbishop Crotty commended the governor for fostering a conducive environment for religious activities and urged the state government to sustain collaboration, especially in education and healthcare.
He expressed optimism that Catholic schools in dioceses such as Ijebu-Ode and Abeokuta would benefit from the planned handover.
