Nike founder, Phil Knight, pledges $3m to Oregon Republicans in record donation

Phil Knight, the 87-year-old billionaire co-founder of Nike, has made a record-breaking political donation in his home state of Oregon. Knight contributed $3 million to the Bring Balance to Salem PAC, a committee supporting Republican candidates in the state legislature, which is currently under Democratic control.

The contribution, recorded on October 22, is the largest ever made to Republican candidates or political action committees in Oregon. Knight, whose net worth exceeds $30 billion, is widely known for his support of Oregon athletics, but he has generally kept a low profile outside of business and philanthropy.

On his political stance, Knight said, “Nike has good leadership. They make choices, whatever they want, but I think I’m more conservative than Nike.”
