Naomi Osaka’s jellyfish-inspired outfit steals the show at 2026 Australian Open

Naomi Osaka’s opening walk at the 2026 Australian Open was impossible to ignore. She entered Rod Laver Arena in a jellyfish-inspired outfit, complete with a wide-brimmed hat, veil, and white parasol. The look instantly became the main topic of the day.

Osaka backed up the attention with a win. She beat Antonia Ruzic 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in a tough three-set match on Tuesday.

The hat and parasol featured butterfly details. Osaka said the design was a nod to her 2021 Australian Open run, when a butterfly landed on her during a match.

“When I was playing today, I just told myself, like, ‘Keep your head on the path. If she beats you, then that’s unfortunate. But, hey, at least you’re trending,’” Osaka said.

She added that Nike and designer Robert Wun helped create the outfit, and that she was allowed to help design it herself.

“The inspiration was obviously the jellyfish, then butterflies,” Osaka said. “It ties back to the butterfly moment I had here a long time ago, in 2021.”

Osaka also said the look matched the new player tunnel at Rod Laver Arena, which features water and coastal themes.

“Honestly it came together quite beautifully,” she said. “Then it just felt like everywhere I looked the theme was water.”

Osaka will now face Sorana Cirstea in the next round. After reaching the U.S. Open semifinals last year, she looks confident and ready to push further at Melbourne Park.
