Suspected serial shoe thieves have been apprehended while allegedly attempting to steal footwear at a mosque along Maje Road in Jigawa State.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Saturday, April 11, has sparked reactions within the community, where residents say the theft of worshippers’ shoes had become a recurring problem.
According to a witness, Muhammed Sani Yusuf, the suspect had been operating for some time, targeting mosques in the area and making away with shoes left outside by worshippers during prayers.

“He has been doing this repeatedly in different mosques before he was finally caught,” the witness said.
Although the exact number of stolen footwear remains unclear, locals described the situation as a growing nuisance that had raised concerns among residents and mosque attendees.
The suspect was eventually nabbed after being identified during one of his attempts, bringing an end to what many believe was a long-running pattern of theft.
Community members expressed relief following the arrest, noting that the incident highlights the need for increased vigilance around places of worship.
