Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has called on his players and fans to show respect to Arsenal ahead of a crucial Premier League title showdown that could define the season.
City boosted their title hopes with a commanding 3-0 victory over Chelsea on Sunday, cutting the gap on league leaders Arsenal to six points. The result came just 24 hours after Arsenal suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth, tightening the race at the top.
Second-half goals from Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guehi and Jeremy Doku ensured City capitalised on Arsenal’s slip, setting the stage for a high-stakes encounter at the Etihad Stadium on April 19.
With a game in hand, Guardiola’s side could seize momentum in the title race if they secure victory against the Gunners. However, the Spaniard has warned against underestimating Mikel Arteta’s team despite their recent struggles.
“The respect I have for Arsenal, what they have done over the last few years, is incredible,” Guardiola said. “They have been the best team in this country and even in Europe so far this season.
“Beating Arsenal once is difficult — imagine doing it twice in a few weeks. We have to be ready and give everything.”
Arsenal, chasing their first Premier League title since 2004, have lost three of their last four matches in all competitions, including a 2-0 defeat to City in the League Cup final. Despite this dip in form, Guardiola insists they remain a major threat.
City, on the other hand, appear to be peaking at the right time. The defending champions have lost just one of their last 19 league games and are unbeaten in their last nine, underlining their reputation for strong finishes.
Guardiola also pointed to the importance of fan support, urging City supporters to back the team from the start of the decisive clash.

“I want our fans to come from minute one because the players will give everything,” he added.
One of the standout performers in City’s recent resurgence has been Rayan Cherki. The French playmaker provided key assists in the win over Chelsea and has now registered 10 league assists in his debut season.
“Rayan is an extraordinary talent,” Guardiola said. “For his first season in the Premier League, his impact has been incredible.”
With both teams battling for supremacy, the upcoming clash promises to be a defining moment in what is shaping up to be a thrilling Premier League title race.
