Ghana: Pastor arrested over attempt to bury five-month-old baby alive

A pastor has been arrested in Ghana after an incident involving an alleged attempt to bury a five-month-old baby alive in Abofrem, a community in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

The suspect, Richmond Akwasi Frimpong, who heads the Anointed Grace Prayer Ministry at Kuffour Camp, was picked up by police following the incident, which has unsettled residents.

Eyewitnesses said the pastor and an accomplice were seen around 11 p.m. at a refuse dump with the baby in a situation that raised concern.

One of the witnesses, Winfred Agbah, said he became suspicious after noticing unusual movements at the scene. When he moved closer, he realised the baby was still alive and about to be buried.

He raised the alarm, which drew attention to the situation and led to intervention that saved the child.

The Chief Linguist of Abofrem, Nana Yaw Badu, said the suspect had earlier told him the baby was dead, leading to initial discussions about burial arrangements.

He said he did not know at the time that the child was still alive.

The baby girl has been taken to a government hospital, where she is receiving treatment.
