Liverpool cruise past Galatasaray at Anfield, reach Champions League quarter-finals

Liverpool stormed to a 4-0 win over Galatasaray at Anfield to reach the Champions League quarter-finals. The Reds overturned a 1-0 first-leg deficit and will face holders Paris Saint-Germain next.

Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring midway through the first half with a clever finish from a set-piece, leveling the tie on aggregate. Mohamed Salah had a penalty saved before halftime but made up for it in the second half with a curling strike from outside the box, marking his 50th Champions League goal, the first African to reach the milestone.

Liverpool’s comeback was rapid. Hugo Ekitike tapped in Salah’s cross, and Ryan Gravenberch followed up from a rebound just two minutes later. A Wilfried Singo own goal was disallowed for offside, but the Reds were in full control.

Hugo Ekitike said: “We could (have) won 10-0, but we did a good job. We can be proud. I can’t wait to be there,” speaking about the upcoming clash with PSG.

Liverpool made four changes from their weekend draw with Tottenham, with Ekitike and Salah starting up front and Milos Kerkez and Ibrahima Konate in defence. Galatasaray tried to slow the game but struggled against Liverpool’s pressure.

Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk admitted: “We played bad, very bad,” as injuries to Victor Osimhen and Noa Lang added to their problems.

The win boosts Liverpool’s confidence after a tough Premier League run and keeps their Champions League hopes alive under Arne Slot.
