Chelsea suffer humiliating Champions League exit, lose 8–2 to PSG on aggregate

Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League after a crushing 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at Stamford Bridge, ending the tie 8–2 on aggregate.

The game was over before it had properly begun. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring in the sixth minute after a defensive error from Mamadou Sarr. Eight minutes later, Bradley Barcola struck from 23 meters to make it 2-0, leaving Chelsea with an almost impossible task.

Sénam Maiga added a third in the 62nd minute, and Trevoh Chalobah was forced off with an injury, compounding Chelsea’s troubles.

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior said after the match:

“It was a tough night. We knew it would be difficult from the start. Barcola struck a shot from about 23 meters, hitting the top corner. From that moment, the opponent’s confidence grew.”

On PSG’s performance, he added:

“Their finishing was outstanding. Maiga controlled the ball and finished into the top corner. We attempted many shots, but PSG did not make mistakes. I am grateful to the players who ran until the end and the fans who supported them.”

Chelsea were without captain Reece James, whose absence was felt as PSG dominated. Despite some good chances from João Félix, Enzo Fernández, and Cole Palmer, the Blues could not convert their opportunities.

For PSG, the win reinforces their status as European champions and strong title contenders. Chelsea now face a Premier League trip to Everton on Saturday, with questions over squad depth and leadership under Clearlake ownership.
