John Stones to leave Man City this summer

John Stones is set to leave Manchester City this summer, ending a decade-long spell that delivered major silverware and defined one of the club’s most successful eras.

The England defender will depart when his contract expires at the end of the season, having made 293 appearances since arriving in 2016 as one of Pep Guardiola’s first signings.

Confirming the development, City said: “John Stones will leave Manchester City in the summer, bringing an end to a memorable and hugely successful 10-year stay at the Etihad.

“Having joined City in 2016… Stones has gone on to make 293 appearances in what has been a magnificent decade of service to date.”

Stones played a central role in the club’s dominance, winning 19 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League. He was also part of the side that secured a historic treble in 2023.

Reacting to his exit, the 31-year-old wrote on Instagram: “They say all good things must come to an end… but this thing we have had has been the greatest, and it will remain a part of me forever.”

His final season has been disrupted by injuries, restricting his involvement in the league, and he is expected to leave on a free transfer.

Supporters are likely to bid farewell in City’s last home game of the campaign against Aston Villa.

Stones has been linked with a possible return to Everton, while his departure comes alongside that of Bernardo Silva, signalling a period of transition at the club.
