Turkish giants Fenerbahçe S.K. have sacked head coach Domenico Tedesco, just 24 hours after a damaging Istanbul derby defeat to title rivals Galatasaray S.K..
Tedesco, a former Belgium national team coach, was appointed in September to replace José Mourinho but failed to see out the season following a disappointing run of results.
The final blow came on Sunday as Fenerbahce suffered a 3-0 loss to Galatasaray, a result that all but ended their hopes of securing a first Super Lig title since 2014. The defeat leaves them seven points behind their city rivals with just three matches remaining.
The ill-tempered derby saw midfielder Anderson Talisca miss a first-half penalty while the score was still level, and goalkeeper Ederson Moraes was sent off in the second half.
In a statement, the club also confirmed the dismissal of sporting director Devin Özek and football coordinator Berke Çelebi as part of a broader shake-up.
Assistant coach Zeki Murat Göle has been appointed to take charge of the team on an interim basis until the end of the season.
