nationwide security emergency, Tinubu orders VIP escorts withdrawal, directing police to focus on core duties and approving 30,000 new recruits to strengthen security across Nigeria.

Insecurity: Seek for help or resign, PDP tells Tinubu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to seek urgent assistance in tackling the worsening insecurity across the country or resign from office.

The opposition party said the increasing cases of kidnappings, killings, and criminal activities, including recent incidents in Edo State, demonstrate the Federal Government’s failure to protect Nigerians.

The call followed the arrest of a social media content creator, Osarobo Omoyemen, popularly known as “Madam Oil Rice,” by the Edo State Police Command over a false kidnapping claim. Omoyemen alleged she was abducted along Upper Sakponba Road in Benin and later rescued by police officers, who allegedly detained her at Akpata Police Station and collected N10,000 as bail.

The Edo Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, dismissed the claims, confirming her arrest for spreading misinformation capable of causing panic and undermining public confidence in security agencies.

According to the PDP, such false narratives thrive because citizens have lost trust in the government’s ability to guarantee their safety.

“Nigerians are living in fear. Criminals are emboldened, communities are under siege, and the government appears overwhelmed,” the party said. “If the President cannot provide security, he should seek help or step aside for competent leadership.”

The PDP argued that the surge in abductions, attacks, and misinformation reflects a deepening security crisis that demands immediate action.

The party urged the Federal Government to collaborate with state governments, security experts, and international partners to restore security, rebuild public confidence, and prevent further breakdown of law and order.
