Insecurity: Kidnapped Kaduna Anglican priest dies in captivity

Venerable Edwin Achi, the Anglican priest abducted in Kaduna State, has died in the custody of his captors, as reported by SaharaReporters, underscoring the worsening insecurity gripping the state.

Achi and his wife, Sarah, were taken from their residence in the Nissi community of Chikun Local Government Area on October 28, 2025. The following day, the abductors sent proof-of-life photographs to the family, demanding ₦600 million for the couple’s release. The images showed the priest and his wife “in clear distress,” alongside other captives who appeared chained and malnourished.

A source familiar with the negotiations confirmed late Wednesday that Achi “did not survive the conditions in captivity,” noting that there was still “no definite word on Madam Sarah’s safety or location.”

Until his abduction, Achi served as the Priest-in-Charge of Ebenezer Anglican Church, Ungwan Maijero.

The development has renewed anxiety over Kaduna’s security crisis. In a related report, Akelicious earlier noted that armed men killed two police officers during a night attack on the Divisional Police Headquarters in Zonkwa, worsening fears of escalating violence across the state.
