Beyond cement making: Dangote Cement Ibese celebrates senior citizens, champions inclusion in host communities

Dangote Cement Plc has again shown its commitment to the welfare of people in its host communities by celebrating elderly citizens and supporting persons with disabilities at its annual programme, “A Day Out with Senior Citizens,” held at the Ibese Plant in Ogun State.

Head of the Ibese Plant, Mr. Ayyagari Subbaraidu, said the event was created to help elders feel valued and cared for, especially those who may experience loneliness or have limited access to healthcare.

Said he: “This annual event is specially curated to improve the social and emotional well-being of our senior citizens while offering essential medical checks and take-home items to support their quality of life.”

As part of this year’s activities, Dangote Cement also presented wheelchairs to six persons with disabilities. Subbaraidu noted that the support shows the company’s commitment to helping vulnerable people in its host communities.

“With this year’s edition, we have now reached 150 elders and 11 persons with disabilities… Our goal is to put smiles on the faces of our senior citizens in recognition of their contributions to society,” he stated.

The Ogun State Government, represented by Hon. Araba Adebukunola, Special Assistant to the Governor on Women Affairs, praised the company for consistently supporting community welfare. She described the programme as “timely, impactful, and deeply aligned” with the state’s efforts to promote inclusion.

Chairman of Yewa North Local Government, Olusola Akinbode, also applauded the company’s efforts, saying: “Their humanitarian activities and corporate social responsibilities have cut across all age groups… Dangote Cement is truly committed to a better society.”

One of the wheelchair recipients, Banji Bamidele, became emotional as he shared how much the gift meant to him after living with a disability for over 30 years.

“This is the first time I will have the opportunity of riding on a wheelchair, which puts an end to over 30 years of crawling. I thank Dangote Cement for this priceless gift,” he said.

Dangote Cement Ibese insisted it will continue to invest in health, education, empowerment, and other areas that support the wellbeing of its host communities.
