Hilda Baci largest jollof rice pot

Hilda Baci begins historic jollof cookathon in Lagos

Celebrity chef Hilda Baci has officially kicked off her Guinness World Record attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice, with her mother leading prayers for her success.

The globally recognised chef, who made headlines in 2023 for breaking the record for the longest cooking marathon, began the massive culinary challenge today in Lagos, drawing fans and well-wishers eager to witness history in the making.

More than just a cooking feat, the event is a celebration of African cuisine, culture, and unity. Hilda and her mother shared a touching moment before the cookathon, praying for strength, endurance, and safety—a moment that moved the crowd, who praised her mother as the backbone of Hilda’s journey.

Accompanying a video of the preparation, Hilda Baci wrote:

“Yes, I can officially confirm this pot is squeaky clean! 🫧✨ I personally rolled up my sleeves and washed it myself 💚. In just a few hours, this same pot will be home to thousands of servings of Nigerian jollof history in the making.”

The chef will use a specially designed 22,619-litre pot, roughly 6 meters in diameter, enough to feed 10,000 people. The challenge is not just a spectacle—it’s an act of service, as the cooked jollof will be shared with attendees and donated to charity.

The historic event is taking place at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, where Hilda will cook with 250 bags of rice, aiming to fill the giant pot to about 80%.

Fans have taken to social media to express support:

“This pot needs to be kept in a museum. Keep soaring higher Hils,” wrote @td_cakesandpastries.

“Well done Hilda! Proud to support this effort with food safety measures,” said @thefoodploy.

With prayers, determination, and thousands of fans cheering her on, Hilda Baci is set to make culinary history once again.
