Hozier born Andrew Hozier-Byrne on March 17th, 1990 is a singer and songwriter from County Wicklow in Ireland. He has been alleged a gay after the release of his track “Take Me To Church” music video in 2015 which features two men sharing an intimate kiss and were subsequently bullied and beaten. According to him, the music video set in Russia is an advocacy against organisations like Catholic Church that indoctrinate its people to believe that some set of people are less human and not worthy.
In a NYMAg interview, Hozier said “Sexuality, and sexual orientation — regardless of orientation — is just natural. An act of sex is one of the most human things. But an organization like the church, say, through its doctrine, would undermine humanity by successfully teaching shame about sexual orientation — that it is sinful, or that it offends God.
Even though, “Take Me To Church” video was to tackle civil rights violation especially against gay, the use of gay concept again in his new music video does nothing but makes people question the singer’s sexual orientation.
The new music video “movement” has gathered YouTube views some thousands lesser than a million since it was uploaded, making it the 16th most trending video on YouTube while a video of Michelle Obama and Ellen DeGeneres, a lesbian who hosts TheEllenShow ranks second.
