A Nigerian couple whose wedding invitation card went viral on social media for indicating that there would be no reception after their church wedding, have revealed how they got a surprise reception party from their friends.
The couple tied the knot on Saturday 17 August 2019 at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, in Yaba, Lagos.
A copy of their wedding invitation was posted on social media a few days ago and it didn’t take long before it went viral as it sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians.
While some commended the couple’s ‘No Reception’ decision, others condemned them.
Following the series of reactions evoked by their wedding IV, the groom Adewale Yusuf, a tech expert and publisher of Techpoint Africa, took to his Facebook page to share how his friends surprised him after the church service by ‘tricking’ him and his wife to the reception venue they had already prepared for him and his bride Blessing Oghota.
He revealed that they are happy with their decision not to have a reception.
“So the weekend was full of drama as our wedding IV trended because of our #NoReceptiondecision. I’m glad my wife is laughing about it now, because it wasn’t funny over the weekend. Thanks to everyone that insulted or defended us, we’re happy with our decision.”
Explaining how he was tricked to a reception by his colleagues, Adewale said they only wanted a small wedding ceremony but got dragged into a surprise wedding reception which was all paid for by his mentors and friends.
“My wife and I had decided to not have a reception party after our wedding. Just church service, nothing big.” Adewale said.
“But, on the day of the event after we had taken our pictures, I was tricked to the office by my mentors and to my surprise my team and friends had planned a surprise reception party for us.”
“I have never been that surprised in my entire life. I was so shocked, that it took me hours to recover fully. One of the most heartwarming thing was that the team members who have moved on from the company, contributed towards the reception, as well.
“I believe in team spirit and that action reinforced my belief. Thank you.”
