Christian genocide: Information minister says Tinubu is unshaken, exploring diplomatic options

President Bola Tinubu remains calm and focused amid allegations by former U.S. President Donald Trump accusing Nigeria of religious persecution and threatening military intervention, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said.

Speaking to State House Correspondents after briefing the President, Idris said the government was taking diplomatic steps to address the “false narrative” and to ensure the international community understands Nigeria’s position.

“Mr President is calm. He’s looking at the whole situation and exploring ways to ensure the international community understands what Nigeria has been doing,” Idris stated.

He dismissed claims of religious bias, describing Nigeria as a “diverse, faith-inclusive nation” where the constitution guarantees freedom of worship for all. He maintained that the Tinubu administration has not targeted any religious group, insisting that the government’s policies protect all citizens equally.

“What has happened is that extremists are driving this narrative, and their desired outcome is to divide the country,” Idris said, warning against rhetoric that threatens national unity.

The minister noted that discussions with religious leaders and diplomatic partners are ongoing as part of efforts to strengthen mutual understanding and reinforce Nigeria’s commitment to religious freedom.

He concluded that President Tinubu remains “unshaken and focused” on maintaining peace, unity, and constitutional rights across the country.
