The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has intensified its enforcement operations against illegal garages, roadside parks, and makeshift shanties across Lagos Island, impounding 155 vehicles, including tricycles and heavy-duty trucks.
The operation, led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, focused on major traffic hotspots such as Ebute-Ero, Oke-Arin Market, Odofin Street, Elegbata, and Marina (Oando Under Bridge).
According to Giwa, the exercise aligns with the 24-hour traffic management mandate of LASTMA and forms part of the Sanwo-Olu administration’s broader policy to ensure order, compliance, and traffic sanity ahead of the festive season.
He said the government remains committed to enforcing discipline and law across all transportation corridors through strict compliance with traffic regulations and a zero-tolerance approach to infractions.
“Illegal garages, unregulated markets, and roadside shanties have persistently undermined our collective aspiration for a smooth and orderly traffic system in Lagos. These impoundments send a clear message that the State Government will not condone any unlawful activity capable of disrupting public order or endangering lives,” Giwa stated.

He added that the goal of the enforcement campaign is to restore discipline, safety, and aesthetic order across the metropolis by dismantling obstructions and ensuring seamless vehicular flow.
Residents and traders in the affected areas commended the move, describing it as timely and necessary to reclaim the city’s aesthetics and promote safety.
Giwa assured that the operation would be sustained and extended to other parts of the state, urging motorists, traders, and transport operators to comply with all traffic and environmental regulations to maintain an orderly transportation system.
