Christian genocide: China warns US to respect Nigeria’s sovereignty amid military threat

China has called on the international community to respect Nigeria’s sovereignty following the recent threat of military action from the United States.

In a statement released on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, China reaffirmed its support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, commending Nigeria for pursuing a development path suited to its national realities.

The Spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, made the position known during a press briefing on Tuesday in Beijing.

“As Nigeria’s strategic partner, China opposes any attempt by foreign powers to use religion or human rights as a pretext to meddle in another country’s internal affairs or impose sanctions and military threats,” Mao said.

Her remarks come in response to reports that the US government, led by President Donald Trump, threatened possible military intervention in Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.
