The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it recorded 3.7 million new voters within 14 weeks of the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The commission disclosed that a total of 3,748,704 new voters completed their registrations nationwide during the period, covering both online pre-registrations and in-person completions at designated centres.
An INEC bulletin released on Friday showed that 2,259,288 registrants completed their registration through the online pre-registration portal, while 1,489,416 finalised the process physically. The figures, however, remain subject to further verification.
“With the conclusion of the registration phase, INEC has now shifted focus to the display of the register of voters for claims and objections, a critical stage in ensuring the accuracy and credibility of the voter register,” the commission stated.
INEC said the display exercise will take place at designated centres nationwide from April 20 to 26, allowing citizens to verify their details and raise objections where necessary.
The commission urged those who registered during the second phase to take advantage of the window to confirm their information and help identify ineligible entries, including duplicates, deceased persons, and non-citizens.
INEC began the first phase of the suspended CVR exercise on August 18, 2025, and concluded it on December 10, 2025, while the second phase ran from January 5 to April 17, 2026.
The third phase is scheduled to commence on May 4 and end on August 17, 2026, giving eligible Nigerians who are yet to register another opportunity. The display of the register for claims and objections will also hold from August 24 to 30.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a clean and credible voter register, describing it as the foundation for free, fair, and transparent elections.
