Barely 24 hours after church attack, gunmen storm another Kwara community, abduct four farmers

Suspected bandits have carried out another attack in Kwara State, abducting four rice farmers in Bokungi Village, Edu Local Government Area.

The incident occurred barely 24 hours after gunmen attacked a church in Eruku, Ekiti LGA, where two people were killed and several others abducted.

According to Channels, sources said Wednesday’s attack happened in the evening while the victims were working on their rice farms at the height of the harvest season.

According to a community source, the assailants arrived unexpectedly and surrounded the farmers as they were gathering their harvested produce.

“It has been confirmed that bandits struck again at Bokungi under the Lafiagi Emirate.
“Four people were abducted. Information is still emerging,” the source said.

Residents noted that the gunmen operated for several minutes without resistance, forcing the farmers into the nearby bush before taking them to an unknown location.

Community members added that increasing insecurity in Edu LGA has left several farming settlements abandoned, as many fear attacks during the harvest period when farmers are most exposed on the fields.

The Kwara State Police Command and the state government had yet to release an official statement as of the time of filing this report.
