Arsenal bid €50m for Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz

Arsenal have reportedly submitted a €50 million (£44m) bid for Real Madrid forward Brahim Diaz as they look to add attacking depth in the January transfer window, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

The Gunners are said to be exploring reinforcements after recent injury concerns, with the club keen to strengthen options in the final third as the season reaches a decisive stage.

Mikel Arteta has previously indicated that Arsenal are open to different approaches in the winter market.

“We are open to every option,” Arteta said. “If we can find a solution that is short, medium or long, it gives you stability and you don’t have to constantly start a process with a new player.”

According to Fichajes, Arsenal view Diaz’s current situation at Real Madrid as “a genuine market opportunity.” The Morocco international has struggled for regular minutes this season under head coach Xabi Alonso, starting just four matches in all competitions.

Diaz has, however, impressed at the Africa Cup of Nations, scoring the winning goal in Morocco’s 1-0 victory over Tanzania to secure a place in the quarter-finals. He has now scored in all four of Morocco’s matches at the tournament.

The report adds that Real Madrid are assessing Arsenal’s proposal, noting that €50m is “a very high figure for a player who isn’t a guaranteed starter.”

Arteta is understood to be pushing for the deal, with Fichajes reporting that the Arsenal manager sees Diaz as a priority signing who can add creativity and attacking quality.

Talks are said to be at an early stage, with no decision yet taken by Real Madrid.
