AFRIMA Awards 2026: Rema, Shallipoppi, Burna Boy, Yemi Alade win big

The 2026 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) delivered a night of major wins for Nigerian stars, with Rema emerging as the standout act at the ceremony held in Lagos.

The “Calm Down” singer claimed three of the night’s most coveted honours: Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, Artiste of the Year, and Best African Artiste, Duo or Group in African RnB/Soul, underscoring his dominance on the continent’s music scene. Rema edged out heavyweights including Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid and Asake in the top individual categories.

Accepting his awards, the 24-year-old artiste credited his success to unwavering fan support. “This is for everyone who believed in the music from day one. Your love keeps pushing me,” he said.

While Rema led the individual prizes, Burna Boy also left his mark, winning Album of the Year and further cementing his reputation as one of Africa’s most influential global exports.

Beyond Nigeria, Jux of Tanzania won Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa, while Cindy Le Coeur was recognised for the Democratic Republic of Congo.

AFRIMA organisers described the event as a celebration of African creativity and cultural identity. “AFRIMA continues to unite the continent through music while spotlighting excellence across regions,” the organisers said in a statement.

The ceremony, hosted at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, marked Lagos’ third time as host city following previous editions in Ghana and Senegal, and featured performances by leading African artistes.
