LASG announces six-week traffic diversion plan for Apongbon bridge repair

The Lagos State Government (LASG) has announced a six-week traffic diversion plan to facilitate repair works on the failed asphalt sections of the ramp and service lane linking Inner Marina to Apongbon Bridge, as well as portions of the bridge on both inbound and outbound lanes.

According to the government, the repair works will be carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works and are scheduled to commence on Thursday, February 5, and run until Thursday, March 19, 2026. The project will begin with the rehabilitation of the Apongbon service lane before extending to other affected sections of the bridge.

To ensure the safety of motorists and allow for the smooth execution of the repairs, LASG said some sections of the affected roads would be temporarily closed to traffic, while alternative routes have been mapped out to ease vehicular movement.

For inbound Apongbon traffic during the rehabilitation of the service lane, motorists coming from Inner Marina are advised to proceed to the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout, connect to Adeniji Adele Road, continue through Ebute Ero, and use the ramp leading to Apongbon/Eko Bridge.

Traffic from Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Third Mainland Bridge, and Victoria Island will continue through Apongbon Bridge to Eko Bridge.

During repairs on the main carriageway of Apongbon Bridge, motorists from TBS, Third Mainland Bridge, and Victoria Island are to ramp down at the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout by UBA, proceed via Inner Marina, connect to the Apongbon Bridge service lane, and continue their journeys to Eko Bridge.

Upon completion of works on the inbound section, construction activities will shift to the outbound side of the bridge. For outbound traffic, motorists heading from Eko Bridge to Inner Marina during the service lane rehabilitation are to divert through the Ebute Ero ramp, Adeniji Adele Road, and the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout.

However, traffic moving from Eko Bridge towards Outer Marina, Victoria Island, and Third Mainland Bridge will maintain through movement on Apongbon Bridge.

Similarly, during repairs on the outbound main carriageway, motorists bound for Outer Marina, CMS, Victoria Island, and Third Mainland Bridge will be diverted through Ebute Ero ramp, Leventis, and Outer Marina/CMS, while those heading to Inner Marina are to ramp down through Chapel Street to the Apongbon under-bridge roundabout.

LASG urged motorists to exercise patience and comply with all traffic management measures put in place during the period, noting that the temporary diversions are necessary to ensure the successful completion of the repair works. Traffic management personnel will be deployed to guide road users and minimize inconvenience.

The announcement was signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, and dated February 4, 2026.
