Ronaldo to retire at 1000 goals, says Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo. The 40-year-old aims to reach the milestone while playing for Al-Nassr and plans the 2026 World Cup as his last international tournament.

I’ll Retire When I Score 1,000 Goals — Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has vowed he will not retire from football until he reaches 1,000 career goals.

The 40-year-old Portugal captain scored twice for Al-Nassr in their 3-0 win over Al Akhdoud on Saturday, bringing his total for club and country to 956 goals.

Speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Sunday, where he was named Best Middle East Player, Ronaldo said:

“It’s hard to continue playing, but I am motivated. My passion is high and I want to continue. It doesn’t matter where I play, whether in the Middle East or Europe. I always enjoy playing football and I want to keep going. You know what my goal is. I want to win trophies and I want to reach that number [1,000 goals]. I will reach the number for sure, if no injuries.”

Ronaldo, who joined Al-Nassr in 2022 and signed a two-year contract extension last July, has scored 13 goals in 14 appearances this season. Despite his record, Al-Nassr have claimed only one trophy since his arrival—the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023.

The striker also confirmed that the 2026 World Cup in North America will be his final international tournament. He captained Portugal to their first men’s international trophy at Euro 2016.

Ronaldo holds scoring records at Portugal (143 goals) and Real Madrid (450 goals) and is the only player to have scored 100+ goals for four clubs: Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Al-Nassr.
