A United Kingdom court has sentenced Nigerian postgraduate student Chiemka Okoronta to prison for raping a 17-year-old girl in Bradford.
The assault took place on March 25 after a night bus service in Leeds ended its route earlier than scheduled, leaving Okoronta and the teenager stranded.
Prosecutors told the court that Okoronta offered to help the girl by getting a taxi but instead took her to his apartment, where he raped her.

Following the attack, the victim reported the incident to the authorities, leading to Okoronta’s arrest and conviction.
The judge described the act as a serious breach of trust, emphasising that the young victim accepted his offer believing she would be safely assisted home.
The case has drawn wide condemnation, with many calling for greater protection for vulnerable individuals, particularly minors, in similar situations.
