Zootopia 2 has officially become Walt Disney Animation Studios’ highest-grossing animated film, surpassing 2019’s Frozen 2, the studio announced on Wednesday. The achievement marks a major success for Disney as global box office numbers continue to lag behind pre-pandemic levels.
The sequel has now joined Disney’s billion-dollar club, earning around $1.46 billion worldwide. Its strong U.S. Thanksgiving weekend launch helped fuel the record-breaking performance.
China played a key role in the film’s success, contributing over $560 million. “The film captured nearly 95% of ticket sales in its opening weekend there,” the studio said, underscoring the international appeal of the sequel.

Zootopia 2 follows rabbit police officer Judy Hopps and her fox partner Nick Wilde on a new adventure through the bustling city of Zootopia, blending humor, action, and heart.
With global box office still below 2019 levels, the film’s record-breaking performance has been a welcome boost for both Disney and theater owners during the holiday season. “It’s encouraging to see audiences return in such large numbers,” a studio spokesperson said.
