YouTube launches video viewing recap feature for users

YouTube has launched a new video viewing recap feature that gives users a personalised look back at their year on the platform, summarising their top channels, interests and shifts in viewing behaviour.

The feature, called YouTube Recap, began rolling out to users in the United States this week, with a global release expected shortly. It compiles up to 12 cards that break down different aspects of a user’s watch activity.

“YouTube Recap uniquely highlights interests, deep dives, and moments you explored this year, based on your watch history,” the company said in a blog post. “You’ll get a set of up to 12 different cards that spotlight your top channels, interests, and even the evolution of your viewing habits.”

The recap also assigns users a viewing personality type, including categories such as Adventurer, Skill Builder and Creative Spirit, to reflect broader patterns in how they engage with content.

Users can access the feature on both mobile and desktop through the homepage or the “You” tab. It includes limited music-related insights but does not replace the standalone YouTube Music Recap, which remains available in the YouTube Music app.

YouTube said the tool is part of its wider plan to improve personalisation and help users understand their activity and trends over the past year.
