Senegal moves AFCON trophy to military base

VIDEO: Senegal coach moves AFCON trophy to military base amid Morocco dispute

Senegal’s head coach, Pape Thiaw, has reportedly moved the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy to a military facility as tensions continue over the tournament’s final outcome involving Morocco.

The development, which has intensified the Senegal AFCON trophy dispute, comes after reports showed the trophy being transported to a secure military base, where soldiers were seen guarding it and posing for photographs with the silverware.

Sources indicate that the trophy is now under armed protection at the facility, a move that underscores the growing Senegal AFCON trophy dispute between both nations.

A post shared by Topskills Sports UK on X claimed, “Senegal Coach took the AFCON to their military base today. It’s now positioned in the centre of their military camp, protecting what rightfully belongs to them.”

The controversy follows a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to declare Morocco winners of the 2025 AFCON after a post-final ruling that stripped Senegal of the title.

Senegalese football authorities have rejected the verdict and filed an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, insisting the title was earned on the pitch and should not be overturned administratively. The Senegal AFCON trophy dispute has since drawn widespread attention across the football community.

Morocco, however, has accepted CAF’s decision, with its players and officials celebrating the ruling as confirmation of their championship status.
