A government-owned public school in Odokerere, Ikorodu, Lagos State, partially collapsed on Wednesday while pupils were in class. No injuries or casualties have been reported.
Social media users quickly condemned the incident, pointing to neglect and poor maintenance. X user @DaveOrei wrote, “This is very bad. It’s not by building new schools when the old ones are dilapidated.”
Highlighting the ongoing frustration over infrastructure neglect, @Mazi_Chinonso1 added, “This is sad. They refused to maintain it because their kids are not theirs.”
Others noted that the collapse was preventable. @Candiv15 said, “Buildings don’t just collapse suddenly. It leaves so many signs and warnings… The signs were there and it was ignored.”

X user @Ev0Ive condemned the collapse as “criminal negligence, not an accident,” stating, “You collect taxes, pass budgets, cut ribbons, and children pay with their lives. Disgraceful!”
Residents also expressed frustration with perceived neglect of the area. @KingPeezee tweeted, “Ikorodu is treated like it is not part of Lagos. I hope the people of Ikorodu are paying attention.”
Authorities, including the Lagos State government and security agencies, have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
