A former Nigerian singer, Sky B, has stirred conversation online after posting a video in which he linked the recent death of fellow artiste Destiny Boy to what he described as hidden pressures in the music industry.
In the video, Sky B addressed Nigerians, saying the country was mourning Destiny Boy, whom he called “our brother” and “our boy.” He said the singer’s death should serve as a warning to young people seeking fame, adding that many artistes, in his view, are unwilling to wait for success to come naturally.
Sky B said he narrowly escaped a similar outcome at the height of his own career. He recalled a period when he experienced several near-fatal accidents within a short time, which he said forced him to rethink his choices while chasing stardom. He also claimed that in 2007, during his peak, he was introduced to what he described as the African arm of the Illuminati, saying he went through an initiation process after being connected to contacts outside Nigeria.
According to him, he was later given certain items which he said were meant to be used before performances and public appearances. Sky B said these items were presented as tools for success, fame and attraction, but came with serious spiritual consequences. He said he became uncomfortable with the expectations placed on him and eventually resisted continuing on that path.

Throughout the video, Sky B said he was speaking out to prevent younger artistes from falling into what he described as the same trap. He added that some colleagues dismissed his concerns at the time, focusing instead on the success and hit songs enjoyed by others in the industry.
He also claimed that his refusal to continue affected his career, even though he said there was a period when he enjoyed wealth, luxury cars and international travel. Sky B said his family later advised him to slow down and make safer choices, warning that his lifestyle could destroy him and those around him.
At different moments in the video, Sky B spoke with despair, saying he had lost much of what he once had and felt compelled to “expose the truth,” no matter the cost. He also pointed to his family background and upbringing as reasons he chose not to continue, saying he could not accept what he described as sacrifices demanded of him.
The claims made in the video have not been verified, and no evidence was presented to support them. However, the statement has renewed discussions around fame, mental health and the risks faced by young artistes in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, especially following Destiny Boy’s death.
