A sudden heavy downpour on Tuesday, April 7, caused significant damage to the 10-month-old Kugbo Bus Terminal, sparking traffic chaos along the Nyanya–Keffi Expressway in Abuja.

Parts of the newly built terminal’s roof were damaged, and debris from the structure spilled onto the busy highway, obstructing the movement of vehicles and leaving commuters stranded for hours. The incident severely disrupted traffic connecting the Federal Capital Territory to neighbouring Nasarawa State.

The Kugbo Bus Terminal was commissioned in June 2025 as a modern transport hub intended to ease congestion and improve commuter experience. However, the heavy rainfall has exposed vulnerabilities in the facility’s infrastructure just months after its inauguration.

Authorities are yet to release a statement on the extent of the damage or proposed repairs, while commuters continue to navigate the disrupted routes amid ongoing rainfall.
