Peter Obi one-term promise WITH AISHI YUSUF

Aisha Yesufu warns Peter Obi over one-term promise, If elected president

Activist Aisha Yesufu has issued a strong warning to former presidential candidate Peter Obi, insisting she would fiercely oppose him if he fails to honour his one-term pledge should he ever become Nigeria’s president.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE TV, Yesufu revealed that Obi’s one-term position was not a casual political statement but a firm personal commitment she ensured he made both before and after the 2023 general election.

According to her, the issue dates back to 2022 when Obi first declared his intention to serve only one term if elected. Yesufu admitted she initially challenged the idea, questioning its political practicality at the time.

However, she said she later revisited the matter after the election, pressing him to clearly reaffirm his stance, given the weight such a promise carries in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Quoting Obi, Yesufu said he stood by his word, stressing that he does not joke with his integrity and would remain committed to a single-term presidency.

“Yes, I told you before, and I still mean it. I don’t joke with my name. When I say something, I mean it,” she recounted.

Despite this assurance, Yesufu made it clear that her support is conditional on accountability. She warned that any attempt by Obi to seek a second term would be met with strong resistance.

“If he gets into office and decides to do more than one term, I will oppose him with everything in me, because he gave his word,” she declared.

She argued that a one-term presidency could encourage bold and people-focused governance, as leaders would be less burdened by re-election ambitions and political calculations.

Drawing comparisons with global figures known for impactful leadership, Yesufu said true transformation is defined not by the length of time in office but by the legacy left behind.

Her comments highlight a growing demand for accountability within Obi’s support base, where loyalty is closely tied to expectations of transparency and integrity.
