The Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) has debunked the Lere Paimo death rumour, assuring the public that the iconic Nollywood veteran, popularly known as Eda Onile Ola, is alive and in good health.
In a statement issued by its National Public Relations Officer, Prince Adejonwo Oluwafemi Femson, the association described reports circulating on Facebook and some online platforms as entirely false.
He said the ANTP had directly confirmed Paimo’s status with his wife, who stated clearly that the legend is “alive and in good health,” and urged Nigerians to dismiss the Lere Paimo death rumour being peddled by mischief makers.

The association further cautioned the public to verify information before sharing, warning that false reports cause needless panic, especially when they involve respected figures. It stressed that Chief Olalere OsunPaimo (MFR), who serves as the Chairman of ANTP’s Board of Trustees, remains active and stable despite his advanced age. The ANTP reiterated that the Lere Paimo death rumour should not be taken seriously.
Lere Paimo, aged 86, is one of Nigeria’s most celebrated actors, with a career spanning over six decades. Since starting his acting journey in 1958, he has featured in several classics, including Saworoide, Oleku, and Ogbori Elemonso, earning him a National Honour (MFR) and a revered place in the Nigerian film industry.
