A law graduate of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Maryam Agoro, has died a day after attending the university’s convocation ceremony.
Agoro reportedly passed away shortly after celebrating the academic milestone, turning what should have been a moment of joy into grief for her family, friends, and the UNILAG community.
News of her death emerged on Tuesday, January 21, 2026, following a post on X by Confidence Ufuoma (@plantcodesss), who shared an emotional tribute.
“You did your convocation yesterday, and today you’re no more. You deserve to be celebrated, and you will be,” Ufuoma wrote.
Her post sparked widespread reactions online, with students and alumni expressing shock over the sudden loss.

Another X user, @Coachchair007, offered prayers for Agoro and her loved ones.
“May Allah forgive her shortcomings and grant her family the strength to bear this loss. I can’t believe I’m mourning Maryam when I should be celebrating her,” he said.
UNILAG held its 2024/2025 convocation ceremony on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the institution’s main campus, marking its 55th convocation.
Agoro graduated from the Faculty of Law, one of the faculties represented at the ceremony.
Her death has continued to draw condolences, with many describing it as a painful reminder of how quickly life can change.
