An X user with the username @OurFavOnlineDoc has issued a strong warning to Nigerians planning to relocate to the United Kingdom for postgraduate studies with the hope of working their way through school.
According to the user, the popular belief that one can “work to repay school fees” while studying in the UK is a dangerous trap.
“Don’t leave Nigeria for the UK thinking you can ‘work’ to repay your school fees. It is a trap. It is a lie. It is a pit that will ruin you,” the user wrote.

They explained that UK authorities only allow international students to work 20 hours per week, mostly in low-paying, physically demanding jobs that barely cover living expenses.
“You will end up doing more than 20 hours a week to repay your loan, your education will suffer, and when the UK government catch you working more than 20 hours they will deport you,” the post warned.
The user urged prospective students not to borrow huge sums with the belief that working in the UK will cover tuition and living costs.
“Please I beg you again. Don’t borrow money to come to the UK to do a master’s thinking ‘I will work and pay it back’ or ‘I will work and pay my school fees’. It is a lie. It is a setup. It will wreck your life,” the user concluded.
