Tinubu departs for Turkey, targets stronger bilateral ties

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Monday, January 26, for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, as Nigeria steps up efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with the country.

A statement from the State House said the visit is aimed at deepening cooperation between both nations in key areas, including security, trade, investment, education, innovation and aviation.

During the visit, President Tinubu is expected to hold high-level talks with Turkish officials on political and economic issues of mutual interest. The discussions will also lead to the signing of memoranda of understanding in areas such as energy, scientific research, technical cooperation, media and communications, and military collaboration.

“The visit is designed to consolidate the existing cordial relationship between Nigeria and Türkiye and explore new areas of partnership,” the statement said.

A Nigeria–Türkiye business forum will also be held to connect investors from both countries and identify new investment opportunities.

The President will be accompanied by senior government officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); and the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu.

President Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the visit.
