Universal Pictures has set a May 2028 release date for The Mummy 4, confirming the long-awaited return of the franchise to cinemas.
The studio said the film will open on May 19, 2028, as a major summer release.
Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are returning to lead the film. It will be their first time back together since The Mummy Returns. Weisz did not appear in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.
According to Variety, “Academy Award winners Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are officially returning for a fourth installment of the blockbuster franchise, The Mummy. Universal Pictures has dated the movie… for a wide theatrical release on May 19, 2028.”
John Hannah will also return as Jonathan Carnahan. Arnold Vosloo and Patricia Velásquez are back, while Oded Fehr is expected to rejoin the cast.

The film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. The script is written by David Coggeshall, with Sean Daniel returning as producer. Fraser will also serve as an executive producer.
Production is set to begin in August 2026.
Plot details have not been revealed. However, the film is expected to follow a legacy sequel style, focusing on Rick and Evelyn later in life.
The directors described the script as “beautiful, sweeping and scary.”
With its original cast returning and a confirmed date, The Mummy 4 is shaping up as a major release for 2028.
