Thailand: School shooting leaves female teacher dead

A female teacher was killed in a school shooting in southern Thailand on Thursday, as per Reuters.

Sasiphat Sinsamosorn, who also served as director of Patongprathankiriwat School in Hat Yai district, was shot on Wednesday by a 17-year-old using a firearm reportedly stolen from a police officer. The suspect has been taken into police custody.

Sasiphat was rushed to the intensive care unit for emergency surgery but died around 2 a.m. from severe internal injuries and blood loss, according to the Thai Health Ministry.

A female student was also injured in the attack, though her condition has not been confirmed.

The school paid tribute on Facebook, writing: “Although we have lost you, the memories and the goodness you left behind will remain in our heart forever.”

Authorities noted that the suspect, who has a sister attending the school, had a history of substance abuse and had recently been discharged from a psychiatric hospital.
